The Ontario Blue Jays are excited to announce that RHP Evan Chenier (Georgetown, ON) has signed his National Letter of Intent to attended Virginia Commonwealth University (NCAA D1 – Richmond, VA) for the Fall of 2018.
Chenier, a long time OBJ, is in his seventh year with the program. Chenier began with the OBJ Development Program from 2011-12 before joining the Ontario Blue Jays full-time in 2013-14 at the 16 & Under level. During Evan’s tenure with OBJ he has become a dominate force on the mound throwing a Perfect Game at the 16 & Under level, and defeating the Houston Banditos this past fall at the WWBA World Championships in Jupiter, Florida. In that start, he threw 5 innings, scattering 3 hits and a run, whiling striking out 6 batters. Most recently, Chenier lead the OBJ 18 & Under pitching staff in Vero Beach, Florida throwing 8 1/3, allowing only 2 runs, while striking out 8 batters.
Chenier joins a strong VCU Ram’s team that has won 35 games in each of its last four years and is on pace to do so again in 2018. In Chenier, the Ram’s are getting an upper-80s arm that has touched 91 mph with exceptional three pitch command and the ability to be an impact Freshman in 2018-19.
Evan becomes the first Ontario Blue Jays player to attend Virginia Commonwealth University.
