2018 Marucci World Series Opening Ceremonies

Baton Rouge, LA. – Last night, the Ontario Blue Jays took part of an incredible experience provided by Marucci Sports to kick off the 2018 Marucci World Series.

This is the 2nd Annual Marucci World Series that features all the teams from the Marucci Founders Club.  The Founders Club is made up of 27 of the best travel baseball organizations across North America who all converge on Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a 5-day World Series.  This is the Ontario Blue Jays first time attending the event and will feature four teams, OBJ 15U Siena, OBJ 16U Bratton, OBJ 16U Travers and OBJ 17U Steed all looking to make their mark in Louisiana.

The Opening Ceremonies were held at a collegiate baseball shrine in Alex Box Stadium (better known as “The Box”), home of the Louisiana State University Tigers.  All 27 programs were in attendance for the ceremonies including team introductions, a Home Run Derby, Fastest Man Competition and a firework display to wrap up the evening.  The atmosphere at The Box was incredible, thousand of players, families and fans packed the stadium to take in the festivities.

After, the team introductions and speeches were finished the skills portion of the event began.  First up, the Home Run Derby.  Each organization was allotted three minutes, and three hitters from any team in their respective organization.  Hitters can alternate within the three minutes as many times as they wish.  The Ontario Blue Jays were represented by SS Jaden Brown (2019 – University of Kentucky Commit), C/OF Blake Buckle (2019), and SS TJ Schofield-Sam (2019).  All together, OBJ managed to hit 5 Home Runs in the 3 minutes.  Although it was not enough to advance to the next round, Jaden Brown hit one of the hardest balls of the night, with an exit velocity of 108.1 MPH.

Next, was the Fastest Man Competition.  Each organization chose a single runner who had to compete in three heats and win each to be crowned the Marucci Fastest Man.  OBJ was represented OF Dasan Brown (2019) who did the organization proud.  In Brown’s first heat, he won by a long shot running a 6.3, 60-Yard Dash.  Brown continued to dominate winning his second heat as well before being defeated in the final heat by a hair at the finish line.

All in all, an outstanding showing by our Ontario Blue Jays players involved in the Home Run Derby and Fastest Man.  The Marucci World Series begins it’s gameplay on Thursday and will concluded with a Champion on Sunday.  Below is the pool play schedule for our Ontario Blue Jays teams.  Updates will be available through our @OntarioBlueJays Twitter account throughout the weekend.
