The Ontario Blue Jays are happy to announced that Catcher Mike Reeves of Peterborough, Ontario has been added to the Team Canada, World Baseball Classic Roster. Reeves received the news today, after fellow Catcher Kellin Deglan was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury. Reeves becomes the seventh Ontario Blue Jays player to be named to a World Baseball Classic Roster (6 – Team Canada & 1 – Team Italy). Reeves joins fellow OBJ alumni George Kottaras behind the plate for Team Canada at the World Baseball Classic.
This will be Reeves’ first time donning the red and white for Team Canada. Reeves is currently with the Toronto Blue Jays organization and played his 2016 season for the Dunedin Blue Jays (A-Advanced). Prior to being drafted by the Blue Jays Reeve’s was a four-year starter at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Reeves and Team Canada kick off the World Baseball Classic on Thursday, March 9th at Marlins Park in Miami, FL against the Dominican Republic. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30pm (ET).
