Ontario Blue Jays 12 & Under Feijo opened up the 2018 season with a tournament championship in Sandusky, Ohio. OBJ 12U Feijo took home the championship in convincing fashion winning all five games they played.
In Game 1, OBJ faced off against the North Coast Red Devils out of Seven Hills, Ohio. OBJ jumped ahead early on a triple from Brenden Walker before the offence took full control in the six-run fourth inning with RBIs from R. Savely, Stevie Waters, Azaad Mann, and Keagan McGregor. In addition to his offence Mann picked up his first win of the season throwing three innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Baker closed the door in the seventh, retiring all three batters via the strikeout. OBJ won 8-1.
Game 2 was a shootout, with OBJ Feijo defeating the Astro Falcons 10-7. The offence rallied around Yoon Chae, Azaad Mann, and R. Savely as they all picked up multiple hits in the win. Meanwhile, Brenden Walker lead the Jays on the base paths with two of OBJ’s nine stolen bases. Stevie Waters picked up the win in relief.
Game 3 was centred around a 10-run fourth inning which secured the comeback for OBJ as they went on to out score the Sylvania Mavericks 15-6. OBJ Feijo racked up 13 hits over only five innings of gameplay leading to the victory. Catchers lead the way in this one with Cam Baker going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Stevie Waters hitting a two-run inside-the-park home run.
Game 4, the Semi-Finals started with a bang as Brenden Walker hit a solo inside-the-park home run in the first inning to kick start the offence. OBJ would continue to add on in the second and fourth before running away with the game. Yoon Chae threw a complete game in this one, scattering six hits, and two runs while striking out ten batters. OBJ won 7-2 in a rematch with the Astro Falcons.
Then came the Championship Game, a matchup against the Brecksville Bees from Broadview Heights, Ohio. Although both teams started slow, the Jays began to fire on all cylinders in the middle innings. OBJ scored one run in the third, three runs in the fourth and nine runs in the fifth to cruise to a 13-0 win and tournament championship. Starting Pitcher Thomas Reilly picked up the win throwing four innings, allowing four hits, while striking out three. The offence was lead by R. Savely who went 2-for-3, with a double, triple and four RBIs.
