This past weekend, OBJ 13U Naylor looked to defend their title at the 10th Annual Battle of the Bats in Flat Rock, Michigan and did so in convincing fashion.
In game one, OBJ Naylor jumped out early against Pickens Baseball (Hess) and continued to ride a very strong start from Mason Bondoc as he threw 5 2/3, allowing six hits, two earned runs and striking out six. The offence was provided by Isaiah Scott who went 3-for-3 with a double and Andrew Morgan who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a double and three RBIs as OBJ went on to win 9-4 in their opening game.
Game two saw the OBJ offence explode for 18 runs against Pickens Baseball (Girrbach) as they went on to win 18-0 in three innings. Cam Johnson picked up the win, throwing 3 innings, allowing a single hit while striking out six batters. The offence was lead by Chase Salmon-Williams who went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Tyler Chan added his 2-for-3 day, with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs, while Myles Naylor collected a 4 RBIs in the game.
OBJ continue to swing hot bats as they played their third game against Legacy Center Select, jumping out to an early lead and did not look back. OBJ scored in each of the first three innings before putting up nine in a decisive fourth inning. Dylin Walters, Chase Salmon-Williams and Carter Kan sparked the offence Sunday morning. Walters was 1-for-2 with a double and 2 RBIs, Salmon-Williams went 2-for-2 with a triples and 2 RBIs, while Kan was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Andrew Morgan secured the win on the mound throwing 3 innings, allow just two hits while striking out two batters.
On to the Championship for a rematch with Pickens Baseball (Hess). As was the theme in each game, OBJ jumped out early in the game scoring nine runs over the first two innings and cruised to victory on the back of a very strong start by Myles Naylor who pitched 5 innings, allowed only two hits while striking out 4 batters. Offensively the whole team contributed in this one, but Dylin Walters showed off his speed with a 2 RBI triple while adding two runs of his own. Carter Kan was 1-for-1 with two RBIs on the day as well.
Congratulation to the OBJ Naylor players, coaches and families on a great tournament win!
