The Ontario Blue Jays had the privilege of running yet another Pro Day at their facility The Athlete Matrix. The top 60 baseball athletes had the opportunity to perform and showcase their talents to many scouts in attendance. Those scouts were represented by the following MLB teams: Toronto Blue Jays, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and the Philadelphia Phillies. Also in attendance was Canadian Junior National Team Head Coach Greg Hamilton.
Pitchers were able to throw a 15-20 pitch bullpen. The Catchers had the opportunity to demonstrate their arm strength and footwork by showcasing their pop times. Both Infielders and Outfielders had their throwing velocities recorded as well as a few rounds in the batting cages.
The Ontario Blue Jays had four (Nathan Holmes, Andrew Wilkinson, Jared Evans and Jack Liddell) 2017 graduates touch 90 mph with their fastballs. 2018 graduates Jacob Kush, Diego Dominguez as well as 2020 graduate Stephen Kinal touched 88 mph with their fastballs.
2018 graduate Noah Naylor impressed not only behind the plate but also during his infielding evaluation. Naylor had the top pop time at 1.76 and duplicated his performance by throwing 92 mph during his fielding evaluation.
2017 Outfielders Rashad Collymore and Jakob Newton tied for top velocity of the evening at 92 mph. While 2019 Outfielder Dasan Brown touched 90 mph during his evaluation.
We would like to thank all of the scouts who were in attendance and the OBJ Coaching Staff for making the evening a success.
The Ontario Blue Jay players will be able to showcase their talents once again in Vero Beach, Florida as 4 teams will be heading down south for Spring Training. OBJ will be hosting another Pro Day in Vero Beach on Monday, March 13 beginning at 10am and concluding with a double-header against the Academie du Baseball Canada at Holman Stadium.
