OBJ supports The Shoebox Project for 3rd Year
Over past three years now, the Ontario Blue Jays MamasForMamas has aligned with The Shoebox Project to build gift boxes for woman living in shelters in the Greater Toronto Area over the holiday season. In the past two years, the OBJ Mamas have created and donated 160 Boxes that were distributed in Halton, Peel and Durham Regions. This year marked a new record for the OBJ Mamas as they created over 200 Boxes this past Saturday!
According to The Shoebox Project, 103,000 Canadian women use emergency shelters and temporary housing each year with thousands more living precariously in unstable homes. Finding adequate shelter, enough food and addressing basic health and hygiene needs are constant stressors for women living in poverty. The holiday season can be particularly stressful for women living without the comforts of home. The Shoebox is a relatively simple and affordable gift to create and tells the recipient that she is worth it and that she matters.
A big thank you goes out to Stephanie Wilkinson and all the OBJ Mamas (and Papas) for the amazing contribution to the community. The bar has been set even higher for next years Mamas4Mamas Shoebox Project!
