Tim Smith to join OBJ Coaching Staff

The Ontario Blue Jays are excited to announce the hiring of Tim Smith as Hitting and Outfield Coordinator.

Prior to Tim's coaching career, he had an extensive playing career both collegiately and professionally.  Tim attended Midland College (NJCAA D1) in Texas after graduating from Birchmount Park C.I.  At Midland College he holds the single season records in Batting Average (.468) and On-Base Percentage (.553) as well as the career record in Batting Average at .459.  After two years, Tim transferred to Arizona State University (NCAA D1) in Tempe, Arizona where he hit .349 over 59 Games before competing in the 2007 NCAA College World Series.

Smith has been selected in the MLB Draft three times in his career.  First in 2004 out of high school by the New York Mets in the 21st Round, again in 2005 in the 17th Round by the Milwaukee Brewers and finally in 2007 in the 7th Round by the Texas Rangers where he signed to play professionally.  During his professional career, Tim spent time with the Rangers, Royals, Braves and Orioles minor league systems where he finished with a career .303 Batting Average.

Throughout his playing career, Tim has been apart of the Canadian Junior National Team, Senior National Team, Pan-American National Team, and World Baseball Classic Team, collecting two Pan-Am Gold Medals in the process.  Lastly, Tim has been inducted in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Mary's, Ontario.

Director of Player Development Kyle DeGrace on the hiring of Tim, "We are excited to have Tim join the OBJ Family.  Along with Tim's extensive professional and international accomplishments he brings over similarities that all our players in our program have.  Tim was once a kid that grew up playing youth baseball in Ontario before joining Team Ontario, where he then represented Canada on the Junior National Team prior to playing collegiately and professionally.  We are trying to create a culture at OBJ that will benefit all our players, and Tim was just like all of them.  Tim's past experiences will only help mentor all the players that are apart of our program.  We can't wait to get started!"

Smith comes to the Ontario Blue Jays after most recently coaching the Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am League where he served as their Hitting Coach.

Welcome to the OBJ Family, Tim!
