Trio of OBJ Join Canada at Olympic Qualifier
The past few weeks have been a break from the current narrative in Canada for those in the Baseball Canada Community as Team Canada took to the field in Florida to attempt to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The roster was filled with familiar names from across the country of which three came from the Ontario Blue Jays, IF Danny Pinero (Toronto, ON), OF Jacob Robson (Windsor, ON) and IF Eric Wood (Toronto, ON).
Robson (pictured above) lead the way for the Canadians, fresh out of his time with the Erie Seawolves (AA-Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers), hitting .421, including 3 Runs Scored, 8 Hits, 1 Triple, 1 Home Run while driving in 5 RBI along the way. Fellow Tigers farmhand, Pinero who is currently playing with the Toledo Mud Hens (AAA-Affiliate) put Canada on his back in a do-or-die game against the Dominican Republic, going 3-for-4, with 2 Runs Scored, 2 Home Runs and 4 RBI in an eventual 6-5 loss. Wood (pictured below), who joined Team Canada after retirement from professional baseball, hit .300 over 5 Games including 4 Runs Scored, a Double, Triple and Home Run while driving in 3 runs playing a pivotal role throughout the tournament.
Although the result was not a trip to Tokyo, Team Canada continues to represent us all as we await to get back on a baseball field north of the border.
